The Anglican Chaplaincy serves as a Christian parish to many different nationals living in Istanbul. The language of the Chaplaincy is English. We also provide facilities for Turkish, Korean, Sri Lankan Tamil, Persian, and Ethopian Amharric speakers. Our purpose is to support persons on the road to salvation within the One Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church. The Anglican Chaplaincy in Istanbul is part of the Archdeaconry of the East of the English Diocese in Europe and is based at the British Consulate-General Istanbul

Our institution in Istanbul for over 400 years has sought to be of service not only to foreigners but to the citizens of Istanbul in general. During the year our institution is one of the key workers in raising money for the charities supported by the British Community Council and, indeed our own charities. The following is a summary of part of the ministry of Christ Church:

  • Pastoral services of baptism, weddings, visiting the sick, funerals, and counselling
  • Representing the Primate of All England and leader of the Anglican Communion, to Turkish institutions such as the Armenian Patriarchate and the Oecumenical Patriarchate.
  • Offering the daily worship of the English Church (twice a day).
  • Making space available for other communities to worship where no proper provision is made in Turkey (Korean and Turkish congregations).
  • Providing 3 havens for quietness and contemplation in a noisy city, as well as a garden where everybody is given access and is welcome to come and sit.
